HOW TO: HEAL YOUR CLIENT'S HAIR FROM SUMMER HAIR DAMAGE

Saltwater, sun damage, swimming pools, oh my! Handle any client's post-summer hair dilemma with ease, thanks to these detox tips.
What's the Issue? “My beach bum client is sporting seriously parched locks.”
Prescription: Your client may have enjoyed those relaxing beach days, but too much fun in the sun can strip hair of its natural oils, leaving locks brittle and dehydrated. Give your client's hair the moisture it craves this fall with replenishing treatments that strengthen hair from the inside out. Jenny Balding, NYC stylist and Redken Styling & Grooming Expert, recommends the All Soft line to heal sun-damaged strands: “Strengthen and repair with All Soft Shampoo, then nourish and boost shine with All Soft Heavy Cream Treatment Mask.”
And for those blondes in need of extra TLC? Try this hot tip from Lauren Hagen, Philadelphia-based Redken Artist and Exchange Facilitator: “Blondes score a serious boost with the Extreme and sulfate free shampoo lines, which help repair damage to the hair.”
What's the Issue? “My client craves a color revamp, but her hair is lifeless and damaged.”
Prescription: Post-summer, hair requires a lighter touch until it recovers from the season's onslaught of environmental stressors. “After summertime, one of my biggest recommendations as a stylist is to step away from the hot tools for a while—pick just one to use regularly,” Hagen advises. Meanwhile, behind the chair, repair up to a year's worth of surface damage with the new Heatcure treatment and at home self-heating mask—a quick, easy add-on that restores hair health, just in time for your client's fall color refresh.
What's the Issue? “Topknots weakened her tresses.”
Prescription: When hair is tied up in the same position every time, one area becomes weakened through repeated stress. To prevent further damage, share this advice with clients: Stop the topknots—or at least avoid elastics that tug at hair. Try creating a low ponytail or single braid—any style that doesn't put pressure on the same area each time.
And, before any updo, try this killer product combo-- mix All Soft Argan-6 oil with a hint of Velvet Gelatine for a great leave-in treatment.
What's the Issue? “Poolside lounging piled on the buildup.”
Prescription: From chlorine and saltwater to UV rays, hair is exposed to a slew of harsh conditions in the summertime. To combat any accumulated buildup, recommend a purifying formula; Redken’s Hair Cleansing Cream Shampoo is phenomenal for nixing buildup-inducing elements. “I love to apply and leave on for 30 minutes, covered with a shower cap (head heat accelerates benefits), then rinse and condition,” Balding shares. “This makes blondes brighter and darker tones richer.”
What's the Issue? “She needs an all-around post-season detox.”
Prescription: If your client’s hair requires serious rescue from summer damage, try mixing up her haircare regimen with a Cleansing Conditioner such as Redken’s Genius Wash. The shampoo-free formula will cleanse and refresh the hair without stripping moisture and vital nutrients.
Consider this your post-summer client checklist, and hair will be officially prepped for fall.
