WHAT IS THE SPICED SMUDGE™ TECHNIQUE?
The Spiced Smudge™ Technique is an autumn-inspired evolution of the traditional root smudge, designed to give clients coverage, spice, and everything nice. By offering two-dimensional coverage ranges from 100% full coverage with Cover Fusion to blended, soft results using Shades ALK, you can tailor every application to your client's unique percentage of grey and desired maintenance level.
Because the technique focuses on seamlessly smudging warm, rich autumn tones into the root area while maintaining natural dimension through the mid-lengths and ends, the result is a radiant, low-maintenance finish with a beautifully soft grow-out.
THE SPICED SMUDGE REDKEN RECIPE FORMULA
- Zone 1:
- 60g 4NN Cover Fusion
- 60g 20 Volume Pro-Oxide Cream Developer
- Zone 2:
- 60g 4CB Shades ALK
- 30g 6G Shades ALK
- 135g 10 Volume Pro-Oxide Cream Developer
- Zone 3:
- 60g 6CB Shades ALK
- 30g 8G Shades ALK
- 15g 7C Shades ALK
- 158g 10 Volume Pro-Oxide Cream Developer
STEP BY STEP APPLICATION
SECTIONING
STEP 1
- Create 4 quadrants.
- Separate the front from the back with a vertical line starting at the top of the head down to the top of the ear. Repeat on the opposite side.
STEP 2
- Divide the left side from the right with a parting starting at the center hairline and ending in the nape.
- Secure all 4 sections.
APPLY ZONE 1 COLOR FUSION
STEP 3
- Starting at the top of the head, take a ¼” diagonal back section and apply Formula 1 to Zone 1.
- Continue to take ¼” diagonal slices and apply formula.
- Complete all quadrants.
APPLY ZONES 2-3 SHADES ALK
STEP 4
- Starting at the bottom of the section, drop down ¼” sections and apply Formula 2 to Zones 2-3. Continue to drop down sections with Zone 1 formula to avoid tangling.
- Complete all quadrants.
- Process at room temperature for 35 minutes. Use no heat.
- Shampoo and Condition using Acidic Gloss Shampoo and Conditioner.
- Apply Acidic Color Gloss Heat Protection Treatment and style as desired.
