HAIR CLOUDING: LIGHTENING IN A FLASH FOR CURLS, COILS AND WAVES

The best part about hair clouding, according to Olson, is its versatility. For clients who are just starting their hair color journey and want a subtle, sun-kissed look, the clouding technique makes it easily attainable through a slow and steady process.
“No matter how thick or curly their hair is, it can create a subtle or dramatic change depending on starting level and processing time,” Olson says.
HOW HAIR CLOUDING WORKS
- Using Flash Lift Power 9 Bonder Inside with 10-volume peroxide, begin applying color with your hands to ensure saturation.
- When applying the color with your hands, scrunch the curls to give a beautiful, soft effect.
- Repeat steps 1-2 based on your clients’ desired result.
- Depending on what your client is looking to achieve, the level of saturation would change.
- Process for 20-50 minutes depending on how long it takes the hair to lift.
- After processing, go in with a Shades EQ Bonder Inside to tone and repair.
- To style natural curls or style with a wash ‘n’ go, use Mizani True Textures Curl Enhancing Lotion, a conditioning leave-in that enhances, defines and prevents frizz without the crunch.

HAIR CLOUDING PRO TIPS

1. Always keep the base deeper to add an extra pop to the rest of the curls
2. Always apply color on clean, brushed-out curls
3. Shoulder length hair or above works best for clouding to show a strong reflect
