Meet Sam Villa
Where You Got Your Hairdressing Start: I was only two weeks into beauty school when I began questioning hairdressing as a career. My dad decided to take me to a beauty show where we watched Vidal Sassoon from the front row. Needless to say, I returned to beauty school with a whole new attitude and purpose.
With Redken Since: 1998
Big Break: In the mid-1990s, I was invited to audition for a new Redken cutting team by Teri Donnelly, who at the time was the artistic director. I arrived a day late, not realizing the date had been changed. Through a lot of persistence, I arranged for the audition anyway. I gave an over-the-top, theatrical performance, playing not only my own role but acting as announcer and audience questioner as well. Teri brought me into the Redken family and I have been a part of it ever since.
Current Initiatives:
I am the lead facilitator at the Redken Exchange in New York City, where I teach a variety of design and trend sessions. I also help train the entire Redken artist network worldwide. I am in my glory and most comfortable when teaching. Practice, practice, practice, until you master the craft and then share with others, so they too can become successful! I am the co-founder of the Sam Villa® brand (Allvus, LLC) where I share hot tips and techniques live and virtually, and have a branded line of tools – brushes, combs, thermal tools and shears/razors – for both in-salon use and at home available at www.samvilla.com.
