TOP TIPS: URIAS SHARES HIS BEST ADVICE FOR HAIRDRESSERS –

• Become more involved in classic training.

• Learn from every situation and technique; one thing can be pivotal.

• Always be a student; don't think you've ever achieved mastery. The second you're satisfied, you stop growing.

FIRST CUT:

Growing up, Hugo was inspired by skater culture – fashion, creativity, and of course haircuts (think short undersides with long, moppy tops). As a teen, Hugo made his first attempt at copying the cut—an “epic failure,” he laughs. But soon, still in high school, he was cutting hair for friends, teachers and parents.

FIRST HAIR SHOW:

Hugo notes that he struggled as a young newbie, but everything clicked at his first hair show in 1993. “There was then no doubt I would be a hairdresser for life,” he recalls. “The magic you can project from a stage is unbelievable, and I wanted to become that entity: a talented hairdresser, entertainer and perceived magician.”

FIRST SYMPOSIUM:

At his first Redken Symposium in 1999, Hugo was performing cuts backstage when Redken’s Vice President of Education, Sheri Doss, asked him to join the team. Urias fell in love with Redken's education approach, skyrocketing his knowledge, success behind the chair, and confidence.

FIRST MAINSTAGE PERFORMANCE:

From his humble beginnings to now, Hugo looks back smiling on his first mainstage performance in 2007. “The place went nuts - it was like winning an Oscar in your first movie!” says Urais.
