#TBT to the days when “word of mouth” was the best way to get the word out about your salon. Thanks to the Internet and social media, growing your business can happen more quickly and efficiently than ever… as long as you know how to keep up with the latest digital trends!

"Salon owners should consider the experience they provide their team and make sure the team understands the "why" behind a great service,” says Randy Currie, owner of Redken Elite Salon Currie Hair, Skin and Nails. "To us, great service is offering the best in customer service, services and products. We pursue this goal by offering consistent education to our team both in house and outside of the salon. When the team understands the goal, it’s easy for them to provide it to the guests!”

In order to provide clients with everything they need outside of the chair, Currie has utilized the one resource every salon owner (and salon customer!) has available to them: The Internet. Here are his tips for how to succeed in the digital age.

Invest In Professional Photos

When you’re showing off your salon’s services online, you want to make sure everything looks the best that it possibly can in order to pique guests’ interests. "On our website, and with all our advertising, we use professional imagery that we create through our own professional photo shoots twice a year, and we know this makes a huge difference when guest's visit our website,” says Currie. "They are seeing professionally styled images that portray a level of sophistication that guest's look for and love and sets us apart!”

Make Booking As Easy As Possible

No one wants to pick up the phone to do anything anymore, so online booking can make a huge difference in obtaining new clients. "Our guests also love online booking, because of the convenience it provides them booking anytime and anywhere! A significant percentage of our guests book online everyday!” says Currie. Currie salon also has its own app for iPhone and Android, which allows guests to book appointments, see events, get special mobile promotions and get complimentary services through a loyalty rewards system.

Post, post and post more!

When it comes to Instagram and social media in general, content is king. “Posting quality photos and videos daily keeps your account growing and interactive!” says Currie. "When it comes to social media: more is more and guest's love it! They especially love seeing themselves featured!”  Currie also recommends tagging popular accounts with large followings, such as @Redken or Modern Salon, and using popular hashtags, like #beauty, #balayage, and #follow.

Link Your Social Media

More and more guests are turning to social media for hair inspiration and salon recommendations, so it’s helpful to get yourself in front of them in as many ways as possible,"We recommend using direct links from your website to all social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc) as these are the major ways guests search for salons right now and you want to be as accessible as possible to them,” says Currie.

Launch Ads That Work For You

When a client is in the chair you’ve got their uninterrupted attention, so why not use that time to your benefit? “We offer specialized advertising that plays on televisions found throughout our salons,” says Currie. "On these tvs we advertise our services, products, events and more that play in the sight of guests during their services.”
